Vivo Y31 5G: A Rugged, Battery-Focused Budget Contender
The smartphone market is crowded with budget 5G devices, yet the Vivo Y31 5G sets itself apart by prioritizing two things everyday users care about most: extreme durability and multi-day battery life. Aimed at buyers who need a reliable daily driver without spending a fortune, the Vivo Y31 5G packs a massive battery, an ultra-tough build, and smooth performance into an affordable package.
Design and Flagship-Grade Durability
At first glance, the Vivo Y31 5G looks like a sleek, modern smartphone available in eye-catching finishes like Diamond Green (Jade Green) and Rose Red (Coral Red). Measuring 8.4mm in thickness and weighing 209 grams, it feels solid and comfortable in the hand despite housing an oversized battery.
Where the phone truly shines is its ruggedness. Unlike most budget phones that offer minimal protection against the elements, the Vivo Y31 5G boasts an IP68/IP69 rating alongside MIL-STD-810H compliance. It is completely dust-tight, can survive being submerged in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes, and can even withstand high-pressure water jets. The front is further reinforced with ion-strengthened Guardian Glass, making it an ideal choice for outdoor workers, travelers, or anyone prone to accidental drops.
Display and Multimedia
The Vivo Y31 5G features a spacious 6.68-inch IPS LCD display with an HD+ resolution (720 x 1608 pixels). While Full HD+ enthusiasts might notice the lower pixel density, Vivo compensates with a silky-smooth 120Hz refresh rate that makes scrolling through social media and navigating menus feel effortless.
Additionally, the screen reaches up to 1000 nits in High Brightness Mode (HBM), ensuring decent legibility even under direct sunlight. Paired with dual stereo speakers and 24-bit/192kHz Hi-Res audio support, the device delivers a loud and immersive media streaming experience.
Performance and Software
Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, built on an efficient 4nm architecture. Featuring an octa-core CPU (up to 2.2 GHz) and an Adreno 613 GPU, the processor handles daily multitasking, web browsing, and light-to-moderate gaming with ease while conserving power.
The device comes in multiple memory configurations—ranging from 4GB to 8GB of RAM and 128GB to 512GB of internal storage—with support for Virtual RAM expansion and a shared microSDXC slot for extra space. Out of the box, it runs on Android 15 layered with Vivo's clean and customizable Funtouch OS 15.
Camera Capabilities
For photography, the Vivo Y31 5G sports a straightforward camera setup led by a 50MP primary rear sensor (f/1.8) with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) and an auxiliary lens, accompanied by a signature Ring-LED flash. In daylight, the 50MP shooter captures sharp, vibrant photos with balanced dynamic range. Thanks to its IP68/IP69 water resistance, Vivo has also included a dedicated Underwater Photography mode, alongside Night Mode and Portrait Mode.
On the front, an 8MP selfie camera handles video calls and self-portraits. Both the front and rear cameras support 1080p video recording at 30fps.
Battery Life and Charging
The standout highlight of the Vivo Y31 5G is its colossal 6,500mAh Li-Ion battery. Combined with the power-efficient 4nm processor and HD+ screen, this battery easily lasts two to three days on a single charge under normal usage.
When it finally runs low, the included 44W wired fast charging support can take the massive battery from 0% to 50% in about 38 minutes. It also supports reverse wired charging, allowing you to use the phone as a power bank to top up earbuds or other devices.
